"I know this sounds funny- but why do I need a monthly budget" (BF -Greenup KY)

Great question! Actually some people do not need one- rather if they are experienced in understanding their own particular monthly cashflow scenario they do not have to track it so closely. However in situations where there is a life change- new job, a move, transition to retirement, death of a spouse or just getting started those are great opportunities to dive into budgeting to ground you and your family to help plan short and long term goals. Also if you are living paycheck to paycheck- YOU DEFINITELY need to budget to stop the bleeding and correct things. For those folks that do not feel that they need a budget I still recommend a deep dive into looking at expenses and cashflow at least annually.

"I think I make more than the national average (income)- but I feel that I cannot get ahead financially. What am I doing wrong?" (MD- Alpine AZ)

You are not alone! Many households feel like they cannot gain any financial traction and grow their net worth - even when they have made more over the years. Often times this is due to 'lifestyle creep' as their household spending increases with greater income. I feel however that the greatest reason for your feeling this way could be a current stagnation in formulating a GamePlan. Outlining what your current life goals are- What does 'getting ahead financially' mean to you? Defining that emotionally and then putting numbers to it in a larger GamePlan should make you feel better with a clear path towards fulfilling those goals and the steps needed to get there.

Establishing an intentional and focused spending plan that includes saving and investing for the future - whether that be retirement or life activity buckets (new truck, vacation to Europe whatever) is key in getting you to feel more in control of your financial situation.
